LadyAxe Drops new Single/Video Better Than the Real Sammi

LadyAxe yesterday released her new single/video Better Than The Real Sammi, which is a Halloween tribute to the film Trick Or Treat. Which was released on October 24th 1986. I can confirm this was not on purpose and by pure chance that she dropped the track on the films 36th anniversary. It was meant to be!

It’s a real tongue in cheek video and a really good song that’s well worth a few minutes of your time! Especially if you’re a fan of the 80’s.

She released this statement.

This track was written especially for Halloween.

It is a tribute to the 1986 cult film Trick or Treat, but mostly to the villain Sammi Curr, played by the late great Tony Fields.

The song is deliberately imitative of “After Midnight” by Fastway to get into the vibe of the film. Also, the lyrics contain phrases from the film.

The video is a tongue-in-cheek nostalgia for all those who love this movie!

Overpower Release Self-Titled EP Overpower

OVERPOWER – Overpower 2022 Promo

Finally, UK Thrash Metal/Crossover band Overpower have unleashed a new promo and it’s a stonewall belter! Opener ‘Suffocation’ is a healthy dose of mid 80’s Thrash injected directly into the vein and sports some vicious chugging riffs, fist pumping beats and engaging vocals. Displaying a distinct early Slayer vibe, ‘Under the Knife’ is a maniacal fast paced bolt of supreme savagery with some aggressive guitar leads and battering ram drumming, whilst the thick pummelling bass tones of ‘Dead Alive’ are infectiously satisfying, and the mind bending guitar solos held within and drawn out leads will have you frothing at the mouth.

This promo is packed full of catchy riffs and pure head banging goodness, and whilst it starts out powerfully it still manages to increase in toxicity and heaviness the further it progresses.

With a slower tempo and a real element of steel fused into the riffs, ‘Visions of Slaughter’ is an outright thrash anthem of a track with rapid fire vocals spitting venom at every available opportunity and a deviously intensive rhythm that takes a hold of your attention in an iron grip! Not to be out done, closer ‘The Ending Begins’ (Apt aint it!) is a juggernaut of a track, full blooded and full frontal aggression as if being hounded by the four horsemen themselves. (I may have ripped that off a little from the lyrics, sorry folks)

This 2022 promo weighs in at just under fifteen minutes of unrelenting Thrash barbarity; catchy, violent and unrelenting. With its impressive artwork this needs a physical release sooner rather than later! (Marksson)

Eternal Helcaraxe To Release New LP Drown In Ash

Eternal Helcaraxe are set to release their third studio album Drown in Ash on 30/09/22, and their first new material since their absolute masterpiece In Times Of Desperation dropped on the final days of 2017.

So, does this album stand up to the previously mentioned In Times of Desperation? Yes, it most certainly does! It’s another absolute masterclass from this band yet again.

As no track listing has been revealed ahead of the album’s release outside the single Where Dead Things Roam Free, I’ll keep it fairly simple. This album has six tracks that are all part of the greater plan aka a concept/body of work. It starts off slowly and builds throughout with many dynamics and even a keys only track that may catch people off at first. Then you think it’s all part of the dark/depressive tone and feeling of this album and fits perfectly.

I’m on my fifth listen of this album as of this writing and it honestly gets better every time, and I was seriously impressed the first time! The dual vocals are excellent and it’s a real grower. In my opinion, definitely an Irish album of the year contender without question! It has everything a great album should have and more!

Check out their previously released single Where Dead Things Roam Free here. It’s one of the best tracks on the album but that’s not to say it is the best. They’re all great and offer something slightly different as I previously mentioned this is a body of work and not a bunch of singles thrown together.

10/10 all day long! Another masterpiece from this truly great band!

On their third studio album ‘Drown In Ash’, Eternal Helcaraxe aim to describe the dark and emotive battle with depression, feelings of desolate bleakness and loss.

Best Irish LP 2021: The Vicious Head Society – Extinction Level Event

Best Irish LP 2021: The Vicious Head Society – Extinction Level Event

My Irish album of the year award. There has been many great Irish releases in 2021 all things considered and many have their own picks. The Metal Cell Podcast went with Bailer, Adrian Williams no doubt picked Acid Age and all are valid calls that I won’t argue with. I don’t agree either though as this album is one of the best I have ever heard full stop! Then you consider the fact one man composed this and it’s even more remarkable.
I could be here all day saying good things about this album, but all I really need to say is that this album is timeless and will still sound incredible many years from now. It’s prog metal perfection! Full of amazing guitar playing, brilliant drumming/bass and excellent dual vocals. The lyrics are outstanding and recognised by big prog sources.

The full album stream is included below. I picked this track as it’s a great example of the diversity in this album and a haunting track! If you like this? You’re going to fall in love…

Party Cannon Release New LP Volumes Of Vomit

Party Cannon Release New LP Volumes Of Vomit

PARTY CANNON are back with their putrefying and long awaited second album, Volumes of Vomit.
Offering up 9 chunks of IQ lowering slamming sickness, mass gaining gym riffs, irresponsibly fast blast beats, and the swampiest gutturals known to mankind. This is not your normal death metal album, this is fully fledged PARTY SLAM at its most unhinged. Featuring guest vocals by well known guttural fiends ROSS SEWAGE (EXHUMED), DON CAMPAN (WAKING THE CADAVER) and ANDREW LOMASTRO (CEREBRAL INCUBATION).

With a running time of just under forty five minutes this is an absolute tour de force! Unapologetically heavy and full of riffs, excellent samples and all round brutality in every regard.
Party Cannon had promised great things in the past and this is the next step. The production is excellent and it’s exactly what it needed to be.
Metal Hammer gave the album 9/10 in their latest issue and that cannot be questioned despite the fact my IQ dropped substantially listening to this album.
It was worth it!!!

1. Tactical Chunder
2. Grass Obliteration (Blazed and Confused) [ft. Don Campan]
3. Nauseating And Unpalatable [ft. Ross Sewage]
4. Naked Beach Frenzy
5. 60 Stone Threesome
6. 1000%
7. Electric Soldier Porygon [ft. Andrew LoMastro]
8. I Believe In Dani Filth
9. The Dirty Bubble

Best International LP: URNE – Serpent & Spirit

Best International LP: URNE – Serpent & Spirit

My awards for 2021 have begun. Not that anyone asked or cares but here you go!
Many great albums were released in 2021. Trivium, Mastodon, Cannibal Corpse, Hypocrisy, Gojira will all be in peoples lists and for good reason. So why did I choose URNE? Well, Joe from Gojira and Matt from Trivium have them in their list so there’s obviously a reason which I think I may know?
Like those lads I’m on this toilet earth a while now and heard many great albums over the years and lucky enough to witness the vast majority of them live. I remember discovering Gojira as one example in the very early days and saw them live at the smallest tent at Wacken back in the day.
Fast forward to 2021 a band called URNE were playing the Sophie stage at Bloodstock. I was intrigued by the name alone and decided to check them out. It was similar to when I discovered all those great bands over the past twenty five years. One of the bands of the weekend and I checked out the album in full when I got home. The line up was changing almost daily in the run up so it was a weekend of discovery…
I get why so many greats have it in their list. It’s different! URNE sound like URNE. When you get on you’ve heard it all before and while you may be impressed, it doesn’t grab you like it used to…
This grabbed me by the balls and refused to let go! It’s spun at least once a week here and I’m not getting bored with it.
I caught them again at Damnation and planning to go over for Manor Fest to see them again. Such an amazing album and band!
A band I’ll be following closely going forward as if this is their debut album. What does the future hold? Only good things I imagine!
